The Omaha Joint Apprenticeship & Training committee accepts applications year round for the Electricians Apprenticeship programs.

There is a $20.00 application fee

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

AGE:  

Applicant must be 17 years of age at time of application. On the date the applicant is interviewed, they must be at least 18 years of age.

EDUCATION:

On the date the applicant is interviewed, they must have submitted at least a High School Transcript & Diploma, or its equivalent (GED, etc.), and have successfully completed one year of High School algebra with the grade of a “C” or better, or it’s equivalent.

DRIVER’S LICENSE:

A valid driver’s license is required.

QUALIFYING APTITUDE TEST:

Each new applicant must take an APTITUDE TEST administered by the Omaha JEATC Office.  IMPORTANT!!  You must follow the instructions as outlined on this sheet in order to qualify for testing.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE / PHYSICAL:

If selected, the applicant must take and pass a substance abuse and physical exam.

COMPUTER NEEDS:

If selected, the applicant will need access to a computer (laptop, notebook, etc.) along with internet access, to do required lessons on-line. An ethernet port or USB to ethernet port for secure connection while in class.

Acceptable Operating Systems While it is always recommended that one be using a machine that is fully up to date so as to mitigate any concerns of personal security, the following Machine Operating Systems are compatible with the use of the LMS for completion of all coursework.

• Windows 8, 8.1, or 10

• Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or Newer

• Chromebook

Acceptable Browser Combinations All browsers are identified as needing to be kept up to date. These most often are set to automatically do this.

If Windows: Edge, Firefox, or Chrome

If Mac: Safari, Firefox, or Chrome

If Chromebook: Up to date

COMPLETION DATE:

All requirements of the application must be completed within 90 days from the date of application in order for the applicant to be considered for an interview, and possible selection. 

A COMPLETED APPLICATION CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING:

*** A completed on-line application.

*** A High School transcript showing the applicants date of graduation, courses taken, including one year of algebra with a grade of a “C” or better, grades and attendance record from the 9th through 12th grades.  Those submitting GED also need to submit a High School transcript up to the point where they left.   For those who have been educated beyond High School i.e. (College, Trade School, Military Service Schools, and Industry Training etc.) you are encouraged to submit records or transcripts of this training also.

*** An aptitude test.   The aptitude test is administered by the Omaha JEATC office (8960 L St.  Suite 200).  Any applicant who submitted a High School Transcript / GED and a Valid Driver’s License, will be qualified for the next available Aptitude Test. Please note, you cannot be scheduled for the test until you have submitted all of the above mentioned.  The test will be graded with a score from 1 through 9, with 9 being the highest.  You must achieve a score of at least 4 to qualify for an interview. If after taking the test and achieving a score of at least 4, you will then be scheduled for an interview at the next session.

INTERVIEW:

Applicants who have completed their application, submitted all records, scored a qualifying grade on the aptitude test, and met all the minimum requirements outlined above, will qualify for an interview.  A notice will be sent to the email address on the application form unless this office is notified in writing or a phone call to the OJEATC office of your change of address.  No applicant can be considered for apprenticeship without an interview.  The date for the interview will be on an as need basis, but under normal circumstances will generally be on a monthly basis.

SELECTION:

Selection of new apprentices will be made after all qualified applicants have been interviewed and scored.  Applicants who are interviewed will be notified by e-mail, of their score.  If selected the applicant will need to submit results of a physical examination, valid driver’s license and they will be subject to a drug screen.

RE-APPLICATION:

If you were interviewed but not selected, you cannot re-apply for one (1) year from the date of your interview, unless after 90 days from the initial interview with the JATC, you have gained at least 450 hours of work experience in the electrical construction industry, or successfully completed two or more post-secondary electrical trade related classes, you may request a re-interview with the JATC.
